Engineers Don’t Do Drama—We Do Solutions
Many of you know me through my grant-writing business or my time as a community college vice president. But recently, my campaign advisors gave me some funny advice. They said, “Susan, you should probably tell people you used to be a rocket scientist.”
It’s true! My background is actually in electrical engineering, and I spent years working on our nation’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile test and development programs. That experience taught me a major lesson that applies directly to this campaign: Engineers don’t do drama—we do solutions.
When a system is broken, engineers don’t yell at it, and we don’t get sidetracked by social media fights. We look at the data, find the root cause, and fix it. Modernizing a tax structure or fixing a state budget isn’t rocket science. I didn’t step into this race to add to today’s loud political noise; I stepped in to bring a quiet, disciplined, and steady approach to public service.
Notes from the Porch: What’s on Your Mind?
Trading the research desk for the front porch has been incredibly rewarding. As I’ve been knocking on doors across House District 51 and attending various events —from Dayton and Ranchester to Big Horn and Sheridan—I’ve been asking a simple question: What is the Legislature doing (or not doing) that concerns you most? Your feedback has been honest and deeply informative. I am hearing a resounding stand of support for our public schools, a clear desire to keep Wyoming’s energy economy competitive, and deep worries about how high property tax bills are squeezing young families.
Recharging the Battery
Sheridan County isn’t just beautiful—it’s home. On Sunday mornings, I’ve made it a habit to step away from the campaign trail, toss on a daypack, and clear my head on a local hiking trail. Between the blooming wildflowers, the lingering mountain snow, and the breathtaking valley views, it’s the perfect reminder of why we live here, and exactly what we are working to protect.
Out and About Across House District 51
Our clipboards are full, our door hangers are ready, and our campaign signs are continuing to sprout up across the county. A huge thank you to the wonderful women who hosted a fantastic “meet and greet” for me in Big Horn last week—it was wonderful to catch up with old friends and meet so many new neighbors!
